How to draw Routes using the FATMAP website
You can create your own routes with FATMAP by drawing them on the map. Watch the video above or follow our step-by-step guide here.
- Make sure you are logged into the FATMAP website.
- Navigate to the area of the map you would like to draw your line
- Tip: To clear the map of other routes and to make it easier for you to draw your own, filter the activities down using the activity selector (ideally choosing "All Others") and then turn off "Community Content" - see the article here for more info on filtering activities on the map
- and then click on the Create a New Route button (the pen symbol) on the bottom right-hand side of the screen.
- Choose your activity type from the drop-down menu.
- Select the Draw a Route option.
- By default, the SnapTo option on the top of the screen (highlighted in the screenshot below), is turned on, allowing the route to stick very easily to existing trails on the map. If you prefer to draw your line freely, click on the SnapTo button to turn it off.
- Begin by clicking on the map where you would like to start your route.
- You will see you can now move your cursor to create the route and click to place the next point. You can place as many points as you like.
Note - You will see that as you are drawing your route, the statistics for the route will appear on the bottom left-hand side of the screen. - To finish the route, simply hit the Enter/Return key and you will see a finishing flag marking the end.
- If you would like to extend your line further, you can continue drawing your line by double-clicking on the end-point, and clicking to place another point.
- You can add points anywhere on your line by holding the A key and clicking on the line.
- Even after you've saved your route, you can always go back in and edit it at any time.
- You can delete points on your line by simply selecting them and hitting the Delete/Backspace key.
- To delete multiple points, select the first point, hold the Shift key and select the last point. You will see all the points in between these two points are now highlighted and you can hit the Delete/Backspace key to delete all of them.
- Once you have finished drawing your route, hit the Save and Continue button to add details to your Route.

How to add details and photos to your Routes
Once you have drawn or uploaded your routes, you can add as much detail as you like to them, including a title, summary, description, difficulty rating, photos and more. Some details change depending on what activity you have selected.
After you have hit the Save & Continue button when drawing or uploading your route (or when you are editing an already saved route) you will see that there is a panel of details that can be filled in on the left-hand side of the screen.
You will also see that some of the details are *Required or *Required for Publishing and there is an 'i'button next to each detail that explains more when you click on it.
The details that you can add are:
Adventure Title - here you can add a title for your route that will appear in your My Adventures list of routes, when people have selected the route on the map and will also be found in the search bar (if the route is published). 46.416229, 9.915966
Difficulty rating - the difficulty rating will appear in the adventure list as a colour-coded line, below the title and statistics for the route. You can choose between Easy, Moderate, Difficult, Severe and Extreme. Tap the 'i' button for more information on how the difficulties are defined for the chosen activity. This is a requirement for any route that you would like to publish.

Try to be as accurate and informative as you can here, as well as inspirational and descriptive. You can also add website links here that are clickable.
