Using the Route To feature on the FATMAP App
Often when you're on-the-go you might need to find the best way to get to a peak when there's not a trail already on the map, or you're following a route but have a change of plan and need to navigate to a different location.
Our latest feature, Route To, easily allows you to do these things! Watch the video above or check out our step-by-step guide below to find out more.
How to use Route To on the FATMAP app
- First open the FATMAP app and select the Map tab (the first tab)
- Find the location on the map where you would like to place the Waypoint either by browsing the map or using the Search tool
- Tap and hold on the screen where you would like to place the waypoint
- You can also tap on a POI and select that as your Waypoint too (more on POIs here)
- The Waypoints menu will appear, showing you:
- the distance from your current location to the waypoint
- the GPS coordinates and Elevation of the Waypoint
- Tap the Route To button
- You will see a hiking route will appear on the map from your current location to the Waypoint, along with the estimated Duration, Distance, Ascent and Descent
- You can change you activity type from On Foot, to Mountain Bike, Road Bike or Vehicle and the route will change to the track that suits this best
- You can tap the Reverse route button on the top right-hand side to switch the start and end points of the Route
- You can set a new destination or start from a different location by tapping and holding again on the map and choosing either Start Here or Set As New Destination and the route will be adjusted accordingly
- You can tap the blue Navigate button on the bottom right-hand side to go into Navigation mode, showing your current position on the map
Note:
- Route To doesn't currently work when you are offline
- For large distances (over 2000km) the Route To tool might not work or show the most efficient route
- The Route To tool is optimised for travel across land, so if there is a body of water along the way it might not show the most efficient or correct route across, or it might try and go around it
